A Stimulus For Healthier Forests and Stronger Rural Economies | New West

by P&P

Restoration projects that target road remediation and maintenance, and noxious weed control can correct past mistakes and help restore our lands productivity. In the process these projects will save taxpayers money. ...

Importantly, these are projects that we ought to be doing anyway. Each has been identified by the Forest Service as a priority and has undergone environmental review, but currently lacks funding. For the health of our forests and communities, delaying these projects further is not an option.

In order to pull our national economy out of its malaise, it is important to focus on both our urban and rural economies. Funding the already-approved backlog of restoration projects across all of our nation's forests is an excellent economic stimulus for rural communities and a long-term investment in the future prosperity of the West.
