Organic Agriculture and Food Security in Africa | UN
United Nations Conference on Trade and Development and United Nations Environment Programme, "Organic Agriculture and Food Security in Africa," 2008 (pdf).
The evidence presented in this study supports the argument that organic agriculture can be more conducive to food security in Africa than most conventional production systems, and that it is more likely to be sustainable in the long term.
This is in line with the findings of the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO) International Conference on Organic Agriculture and Food Security, held in May 2007.
Therefore, we encourage policymakers and development cooperation partners in Africa and around the world to take a new look at this promising production system with fresh eyes.
Bill Clintion, speaking at UN World Food Day, Oct 23, 2008.
I believe that we need the World Bank, we need the International Monetary Fund, we need all the big foundations, we need all the governments to admit that for thirty years we all blew it - including me when i was president - we blew it. We were wrong to believe that food was like some other product in international trade. And we all have to go back to a more environmentally responsible, sustainable form of agriculture.
